17-Year-Old Fatally Shot at Chicago Park:- According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ashuntice Wilburn, 17, was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon in a park on the West Side.
She and a 16-year-old kid were shot while a block party was taking place nearby, according to Chicago police.
“Then we hear gunfire. “And then we heard tires kind of squealing away and was like, ‘No, those were not fireworks,'” Antoinette Coleman, who heard the shooting, said. “I didn’t want anything to happen to my grandbabies, so the first thing I wanted to do was grab them and cover them.”
According to Chicago police, the incident took place at around 4:10 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue in the North Austin area. When shots were fired at Galewood Park, Wilburn and the teenage lad were there.
We are unable to even visit the park because of its lack of security. And it’s horrible to attempt to have a block party while someone is firing just across the street from us, Coleman said.
Wilburn, who had been shot in the buttocks, was sent to Stroger Hospital in a severe condition where she later passed away. Shot in the right leg, the teen guy was transported to the same hospital in good health.
She was probably incredibly innocent in this, however she now perished. She now has to cope with this, and her family,” Coleman added.
People at the block party, including youngsters, continued to be concerned about the horrific shooting. They were only trying to have a good time before school started.
“We need to look further and consider how our kids can still be kids,” They no longer receive that, Coleman said.
In this case, police did not immediately provide any information regarding suspects or arrests. Detectives from Area 5 are looking into it.
