A body was discovered in a black rubbish bag and is the subject of an investigation.
This past Saturday, along Whitlock Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard in Longwood, the discovery was made around 11 a.m. The unnamed victim, according to police, was discovered inside a shopping cart in a black waste bag.
The walkway is blocked off by construction along the Whitlock Avenue section where the body was discovered, making the area rather forlorn. It is unknown who found the body, which was located next to a sizable building site.
Around 3:30 p.m., police managed to place the entire body and the cart into what seemed to be a body bag before removing it from the scene.
EMS declared the subject dead on the spot.
A playground is just a half block away, and on Saturday, families and kids were playing there.
The body, according to one woman, has been there since at least Friday.
“A bicycle-riding man I came across on the corner told me he had seen someone there the day before. She stated, “He looked and said they believe someone died.
A local named Janise claimed that it is “always really scary down there.”
Because it is so dark, she continued, “it is not a good place to walk at night because anything is possible.”
At the intersection, a man could be seen riding a bicycle. A mere five-minute walk away, Lisa Marie Velasquez was murdered in an apartment on Longfellow Avenue in 2018. At two Bronx parks, her body parts were dispersed in bags.
The probe is still continuing and in its early phases.
Police have no information on who placed the body there or how decayed it was, and the body has not yet been recognized.
